Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Incorporated takes pride in being women of "Quality, Not just Quantity". We aim to attract women into our sisterhood who stand above the rest in their community and in their actions. We accept membership on the undergraduate and graduate level. To be considered for undergraduate membership, candidates must have a cumulative grade point average of 2.5 (on a 4.0 scale). While membership at the Graduate level requires a degree from a 4-year accredited university.
Whether joining a Historically Black Greek Lettered Organziation has always been something you've wanted to do or if you are just starting to wonder about the "strolling", stepshows or community service projects happening around your campus, here are a couple of tips to think about:
Do your research. Remember that you should be an informed consumer. Don't join any organization unless you know what they are about. Research the other organizations so that you can make an educated decision and choose the one that is right for you. Research the organziations on your campus. Find out what they are doing on campus and in the surrounding communities. Go to events put on by all of the organizations. Do their values fall in line with yours?
Decide if its for you. Being Greek is more than wearing paraphernalia
and stepping in step shows. It is a life time commitment that requires dedication,
loyalty and the best that is within you. It is not for everyone and remember that
being Greek does not make you any better than the next person.
Talk to a member. Approach someone who is in a Sorority or Fraternity and ask questions, but be represctful. Throwing up a handsign with a barrage of questions is not the way to start a conversation. Feel free to ask about our organization and maybe the reasons why we joined ourselves. Just a conversation does not prohibit you from joining any other organization. Getting to know members of the Sororities and Fraternaties on your campus will give you a take on who these people are and where you will find the best fit.
